The household waste has to be treated in a proper way so that it does not harm anything. In its preliminary form, it can prove harmful to its surroundings. So, it has to be converted into some other form and septic systems are the right solution for it.

Because of the massive amounts of waste of this type that are produced by society as a whole, they cannot merely be sealed up in a container and discarded. They must be handled and dealt with through other means. One of the natural means is a septic tank.

A septic tank is basically a large tank which is used to temporarily store the waste products. Here the solid waste sinks to the bottom and the lighter material rise to the top.

Bacteria plays a very important role in the working of a septic system. They are purposely placed inside the tank so that they can eat away the waste. They convert the solid waste into gaseous form which then rises up.

There is a network of pipes underground and when the liquid waste gets to the same level as of a drainage pipe, then the liquid flows into that network of pipes. This liquid waste is then carried to the soil where the microbes further break it down and now it is completely safe for the environment.

Septic tank additives containing enzymes and bacteria are used to safely keep the process going. Materials that enter into the system would not be broken down without bacteria, and the process would be halted. So, this is necessary.

It is very important to take care of the septic system as getting it replaced can be a costly process and moreover, it would take some time to regain full use of your bathroom facilities. So one should take care of certain points that will help to extend the life of the septic tank.

Too much water entering the septic system can be a problem, so there should be check on the amount of water draining into your septic system. There should also be a limit on the chemicals that we use to clean the plumbing system as these can kill the bacterias present in the tank and the entire process can come to a halt.
